Free physical literacy program for children with Autism to be held at Genesis Place in Airdrie, AB

"Genesis Place will host a free physical literacy program for children with Autism.

FUNdamentally Inclusive, also known as Fun Inc., will run Monday evenings and Saturday mornings from November 7 until December 14.

The program is open to children aged 4 to 11 with Autism or sensory sensitivities. Children who register will be placed into two age groups of 4 to 6 years old and 7 to 11 years old.

Fun Inc. aims to provide a safe environment for children with Autism to develop movement skills that are fundamental to physical activity.

“Funding through the Communities ChooseWell RECreate Grant allowed us to bring this unique opportunity to Genesis Place,” says Genesis Place Wellness Coordinator Jerret McCoy. “We are also thrilled that our own ACE Physical Literacy Specialist, Travis Walsh will be the lead instructor for the program.”

The Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence (PISE) and the Canucks Autism Network developed the curriculum for the program that Walsh will lead.

Registration inquiries can be emailed to Preschool, Children, and Youth Programmer Bobbi Thomas at bobbi.thomas@airdrie.ca."
